Our car share is miles better! »

IF you want to share your commute with people who work at the same place as you – why not call a Faxi?

Our neighbourhood has around 3,000 people working in office and industrial space at Lingfield Point, Darlington and – as a business always at the forefront of smart thinking – we’ve signed up for an online car sharing scheme to make it easier to link up with people making the same journey.

The idea of the journey-share website is to get a group of ‘friends’ acting as a taxi service to create ‘Faxi’ journeys – to save the environment and cash for the users.

Launching the initiative, our very own Eddie Humphries, said: “Sharing a commute with friends seems obvious – the difference is that Faxi puts together friends who just haven’t met yet!”

Lingfield Point – which already provides excellent cycle and public transport links – is working with Darlington Borough Council and Local Motion on the project which aims to help at least ten percent of the employees on site.  The launch of the car share scheme follows a recent survey by the council which found that nearly half of those asked at Lingfield Point said they would register for a car sharing scheme if one was offered. The survey also found that 61 percent of employees on-site currently drive to work alone, 79 percent chose their travel mode based on convenience and 28 percent on cost.

The Faxi website allows customers at Lingfield Point to access like-mined people from a range of businesses across the 90 acre site.

Alex Kay, Sustainable Transport Officer at Darlington Borough Council, said: “Lingfield Point has huge potential for employees to travel more sustainably.

“With hundreds of people driving to the same place each day at roughly the same time, it makes sense to reduce the number of cars filing up the site and roads on a daily basis.

“From the 547 employees who took part nearly half said they would register for a car sharing scheme. The survey revealed many will look at their drive to work and think about possible savings. We’re pleased to be working with Lingfield Point on this exciting new scheme.”

Eddie said: “The survey clearly showed that many employees like the idea of car sharing and we felt it was important to offer this great service to our customers, and to do so in an easy, convenient way.

“The new Faxi platform is simple to use and accessible on the go via smartphone. Journey sharing can help to lower fuel bills, reduce wear and tear on vehicles and lower emissions – so everyone benefits.

“Here at Lingfield Point we offer the very best service to businesses such as 100Mb broadband, a 24/7 concierge service, great public transport links and excellent amenities. We’re confident that good businesses feel at home at Lingfield Point and we’re delighted to launch this exciting new service.”

*The scheme is part of the Council’s Local Motion Project, which is funded by the Department for Transport.

Budding entrepreneurs sparkle with success this Christmas »

As Darlington’s biggest provider of office space – already representing over 60 businesses in the Tees Valley – our neighbourhood is always buzzing with activity – even more so this Christmas.

With a wonderful calendar of events this Christmas, we’ve welcomed Red Hall Primary School with Christmas crafts and cards for our neighbourhood to buy – all hand-made – raising money for their school funds – their unique sparkle and creative sales techniques ensured they sold out within an hour of their arrival!

make_grow_tcm36-33058

As part of the Virgin Money’s Make £5 Grow scheme, a number of local primary schools, including Red Hall Primary School have teamed up with Foundation for Jobs to teach our younger generation the value of money and how to run a mini-business.

Aged between 9 – 11, our local children have been learning valuable lessons – from designing products; developing business plans, making products and even how to sell – we hope we’re heping to give them a great grounding on the basic principles of business – and where best to learn this but in a creative environment like Lingfield Point.

It’s a scheme to get our children building skills for the future – learning valuable lessons surrounded by mentors and our supportive environment. Virgin Money have given children £5 per head and have worked in teams to develop a wide range of products to entice our friends and colleagues to buy during this festive season.

Children are encouraged to think carefully about their target audience, product costing, pricing and marketing. And in the process, they develop their business skills and financial understanding. In addition, schools keep any profit made after the original loan has been paid back – a great reward for pupils’ enterprise and hard work!

Once the programme has finished, the school will learn how much our local children have made – with all profits going to the school fund – a great way to experience the benefits of strong leadership and clear thinking.

Surrounded by creativity; customer service and of course great office space, we’re hoping our local school children will relish the challenge and opportunity of business – we’ll certainly be encouraging this flair of productivity.

Fancy a chat on your office or industrial needs for your business? Pick up the phone and we’ll pop the kettle on.

With a great many of the staff taking to social media to praise this new chapter for Capita, we’re delighted to see a positive response to the amenties and quality of environment now availble to any business that needs office or industrial space in Darlington.

Dominic Moore, Asset Management Director of Clearbell, which runs the fund that owns Lingfield Point, said: “This project has allowed us to continue the transformation of Lingfield Point with the regeneration of this huge area from disused factory buildings to high spec, high-quality office space. This move adds weight to our ambitious plans to create a regional hub for business at Lingfield Point.”

Eddie Humphries, Estate Manager, said: “We are looking forward to meeting the new staff, helping them to settle in and make best use of all of the amenities here. One of the things that attracted Capita to Lingfield Point was the great facilities – both for the company and its staff.

“They felt they had found their perfect cultural match and as a service provider strongly identified with our own ethos of customer service delivered through our 24 hour concierge service.”
Capita employees will have access to the on-site facilities such as the Little Lingfields Nursery, the café bistro ‘canteen’, free bike hire, a book swap club and other amenities.

Festival Fever is upon us thanks to Festival of Thrift »

Time is ticking and we’re all watching with anticipation as our office space in Darlington transforms itself into the fabulously frugal, fun and free Festival of Thrift on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27 September from 10am to 5pm.

With over 1200 events programmed over the 2 days – the biggest challenge is what to get involved in first!

Festival-goers don’t just watch passively but actively get involved in debates, workshops, swapping and entertainment. People make, learn and go away with something to pass on. Here are just some highlights…

The Darly Train – sponsored by Darlington Building Society : the theme of steam will be kept alive with a newly commissioned made train by Hannah Fox and sound artist Dan Fox.

You can walk around the old wooden train carriage stuffed with stories, images, sounds and scenes for families to explore; it will be like opening the pages of a beautiful yet strange storybook.

ETHICAL FoT Fashion by Tracy Kidd

OxGlam: See fashion through the ages with thrifty outfits harking back to 1825 in celebration of this year’s theme based on the 190th anniversary of the world’s first passenger steam train which journeyed between Darlington and Stockton. Our Oxfam stylists will show you how to look a million dollars for pounds and pennies. We’ll also be awarding rosettes to the best dressed, thriftiest Festival goers and inviting them on stage too.

STEAM – Urban Playground: Fusing dance, parkour and slapstick comedy. Family street-theatre like you’ve never seen before taking you on a locomotive journey in a head of steam.

Home Live Art’s Alternative Village Fete: An eclectic mix of new work and ideas with performance installations, live music, communal dance, making and building.

Get involved in childcare for vegetables, a 1920s workout and enjoy the stunts on the bicycle wall of death.

Learn how to make a properly engineered den and groove to the vinyls spun by our resident soul funk reggae DJ, all pulled together by our clever compare and ringmaster.

swoolish

Swoolish Garage’s Vespaqua and Footbath Terrace: Enjoy a trip around our wonderful world in a bathtub full of nice (hot) water with the wind in your hair and the sun on your face.

Alternatively, have a seat at the Footbath Terrace and treat your feet to a wonderful soak. The Bath-charmers will take care of you, make sure you have a good seat, hand you a fresh towel and maybe even give you a small foot massage, who knows?

Not forgetting of course fix it zones; thrifty stalls with demonstrations, workshops, debates and even the fabulous solar powered Sol Cinema – an intimate cinema with your very own usherettes curated by The Star and Shadow Cinema.

Finally, there’ll be a host of delicious dining, tasting and snacking opportunities curated by Food Guru Simon Preston. Picnicking areas across the site, a bus bar in the form or a RouteMaster bus with DJ’s playing on the top deck – even jam and chutney making at Jamallot and Jamalittle and so much more, with plenty of opportunities to make your own in our workshops.

Needless to say we’re over the moon to be hosting this feast of fun at Lingfield Point as we provide the perfect backdrop thanks to our sustainable approach to regeneration and upcycling techniques.  The Festival of Thrift is just one of the many reasons that companies now choose Lingfield Point as their base for business.

Twice as many reasons to hop on board… »

Sustainability is as easy as ‘one plus one, equals two’ for us now that our bus service has doubled its frequency to our world thanks to Arriva and Darlington Borough Council.

With more than 2,500 people now working at the business park, the bus service is a key feature to attract new businesses to the business park.  With the main bus stop now situated outside of Beehive – its a welcome addition to exclusive parking and high spec office space available from 2,500sqft.

Eddie Humphries, Estate Manager, said: “This increase in service is a real match for our sustainability ethos and represents great value for employees and businesses.
“Although we have plenty of parking it is wonderful to see so many of our customers buying into travelling by public transport. This service can help make a real difference in the pocket as well as the environment.  New bus stops will be appearing, as the new service will travel both ways through the site and new timetables will be available.”

Arriva North East, with financial support from Darlington Borough Council’s Local Motion project, introduced a bus service to the Business Park in 2012 on a trial basis.

The trial has been so successful that Arriva is now operating the service on a commercial basis and will add eight peak hour journeys into the timetable to cope with rising demand – and to help even more people get to and from work, quickly, cheaply and easily.

Brilliant news for our businesses

Brilliant news for our businesses

From May 17 the additional services to Lingfield will be operated as part of Arriva’s new Service 2, which will offer cross-town links from Branksome to Red Hall via the town centre up to every 12 minutes, with peak hour journeys operating via Lingfield Point.

Full timetable details can be found at: http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/north-east/timetables/

More space on loan to growing business »

We’re proud to announce that one of Darlington’s biggest employers is expanding its presence in our neighbourhood.

The Student Loans Company (SLC) has been based in the award-winning Memphis building since 2008, and now employs more than 1300 people, almost double the number since it first set up in Darlington.

We’re proud to say SLC occupies some of the most stylish office space to let in Darlington and with its expansion into our Studios office space, we hope we’ve provided a good home for their business.

Studios - now home to Student Loans Company

Studios – now home to SLC

Derek Ross, Director of Operations and Customer Service at SLC, said the move confirms SLC’s continued commitment to Lingfield Point. “We’re consolidating the small offices we had in the Beehive offices to create extra space for IT development and support staff.

“The creative and supportive nature of the business park, as well as its central location and great transport links, make this an excellent environment where our staff can carry out their important work,” he added.  We couldn’t agree more!.

In keeping with the rest of Lingfield Point, Studios has been imaginatively refurbished from a former recording studio into contemporary, open-plan offices with relaxed break-out spaces and a dedicated central plaza.

Lingfield Point was redeveloped from the former Patons and Baldwins wool factory to become one of the most sought-after business postcodes in the region, winning a number of national awards on the way.

Accolades for the Memphis Building include the British Council of Offices (BCO) Best Recycled Office Space in the UK, and five years later the BCO Test of Time award.

Dominic Moore, Clearbell’s Asset Management Director, the new owners of the site, said the SLC decision to expand at Lingfield Point was a clear indicator of the confidence the business park’s many customers have in the site and its facilities. “We’re delighted that the Student Loans Company has decided to expand into Studios.  Eddie – our very own Estate Manager and Dominic enjoyed a tour around the space, thanks to SLC’s Anthony Hill (pictured).

David Jackson of letting agents Jackson & Partners said the further investment by such a major national organisation reflected the popularity of Lingfield Point as a regional business base.

“Its blend of location, facilities, services and customer-focused approach is unlike any other business park, and it’s proving an irresistible combination,” he said.

Buzz around our Beehive …. you’ll love Life at Lingfield »

It’s the new year and we’re celebrating a new lease of life for our iconic Beehive building thanks to a £100,000 refurbishment – and a VW campervan.

Dramatic new entrances have been created for our latest office space to match other award-winning office space in our business park.

Once the hub of a thriving on-site social scene, Beehive was key to the work/live community ethos created by Patons & Baldwins.  Now, 60 years later, Beehive is buzzing again with a like-minded business community after being refurbished into stylish office space at the heart of Lingfield Point, Darlington.

BEEHIVE

Beehive – where good business feels at home.

Eddie Humphries, Estate Manager said the building exemplifies the ethos behind Lingfield Point.

“All our buildings here are extraordinary places to work, but Beehive holds a special place in all our hearts.  The Beehive was the Patons and Baldwins wool logo, recognised across the world, and it’s the perfect choice for a name. It’s great to see this area come alive again – and after hosting the memorable SIXTY exhibition that celebrated our heritage – we know there is a real civic pride in how we have transformed this space.

“Across Lingfield Point we offer unique environments, and Beehive – with its airy, bright, open spaces, outdoor terraces and mezzanine floor – is no exception.

Darlington's latest office space to let - Beehive

Darlington’s latest office space to let – Beehive

Space is available from 1,880 sq ft through to 15,080 sq ft – ideal for medium-sized businesses wanting their own front door and a neighbourhood packed with like-minded businesses.

“And a particular feature is our vantastic meeting space – a converted campervan that is such a hit for our customers – it’s a charming place for a breakout meeting.”

Eddie said: “Beehive businesses can have everything from their own front door to access to cool meeting spaces that make ideas blossom.

It’s the real heart of Lingfield Point – and we’re delighted at how we’ve been able to bring this building back to modern life.”

Businesses locating to Beehive benefit from flexible leasing arrangements and can expect the very best facilities and car parking on the doorstep – from excellent transport links to road, rail and air connections, 24/7 security & concierge service, to the on-site bistro café and childcare nursery.

Join us in welcoming our new owners of Lingfield Point »

We’re proud to introduce our new owners today – Clearbell – who will continue to build on the success of the site as a regional mixed use hub.

The new owner is a fund managed by Clearbell, an independently owned private equity real estate fund management and advisory business, specialising in UK property investment, development and asset management.

Previous owner, Marchday, had taken Lingfield Point from a disused, semi-derelict factory to one of the most sought-after business postcodes in the region – and won recognition for best practice in property management and a number of national awards including the prestigious British Council of Offices ‘Test of Time’ Award for Memphis.

The combined businesses based at Lingfield Point employ more than 2,500 people who enjoy a wide range of facilities – from the on site ‘canteen’ bistro to the Little Lingfields child care nursery and a packed programme of events. Over 50 businesses have been made to feel at home with start-up office space available from 270sqft through to huge offices to house global giants AMEC, specialist care home providers – Four Seasons Health Care and Student Loans Company.

Great faciliies await new businesses at Lingfield Point

Great faciliies await new businesses at Lingfield Point

Marchday bought Lingfield Point in 1998 and has since invested millions of pounds in sympathetically upgrading the office space to reflect its history as the world’s largest wool factory, Patons and Baldwins. The company had ambitious plans for Lingfield Point and over the years saw them come to fruition.

Now, having set it well on its way to regenerating the mixed use scheme, it was felt the time was right to sell. Marchday Director John Orchard, said: “Lingfield Point is a really special place and we wanted everything to be just right – not a pale reflection of our initial aspirations – and I can honestly say we have achieved that. Last year also saw the opening of the first new homes at Lingfield Point, which was the fulfilment of our ambition of turning the clock back to people living on site again as they did in the heyday of Patons and Baldwins. It has been part of our lives for so long that this was not an easy decision to make – however, it is the right one. It is time to pass on the baton.”

Print

The sale will see Clearbell pick up that baton – and take the site to the next phase of the masterplan. Dominic Moore, Clearbell’s Asset Management Director, will lead the management of Lingfield Point with the existing on-site team.

Dominic said: “The unique personality of Lingfield Point is one of the things that make it such an interesting addition to Clearbell’s portfolio – and the aim is to ensure that it not only remains intact but is also built upon.

“Clearbell will continue the creativity around the 90-acre site and hopes that, with ongoing investment, Lingfield Point will become a flagship for successful regeneration in the North East – continuing to position Darlington as a great base for business.

“There will be no fundamental changes – the same onsite team will ensure the outstanding service standard is maintained and delivered with Lingfield Point’s typical flourish of creativity and quirkiness.”

We hope you will join us in welcoming our new colleagues to our wonderful world of Lingfield Point.
